The modelled body. Studio exhibition on ceramic sculpture

This exhibition compares different representations of the body by artists from the baroque to the present day and reveals in a humorous and entertaining way artistic developments and invariable traits. The depiction of the human body is one of the oldest motifs in art and one of the most common in ceramic sculpture. Until well into the 19th century, the representation of the body usually followed social ideals. By contrast, artistic representation in the 20th century is characterised by a freer and often provocative approach. At the same time this development reflects the functional change in ceramic sculpture from a decorative object created for a specific purpose to an autonomous work of art.
