The Art of Pop Video

This exhibition is one of the first exhibition projects on the subject of the history and development of the music video. The importance of the video as an artistic genre will also be emphasized: it brings together painting, film, photography and performance. The presentation comprises up to 100 of the most important international video clips – from early avantgarde films to current positions. A number of focal themes, which demonstrate the importance of the genre within the framework of the fine arts, will be illustrated at monitor and projection points at the Cologne Museum of Applied Art. Especially in the section “Das Musikvideo als künstlerische Position” (music video as an artistic position) – with works by among others Pipilotti Rist, Christian Jankowski and Wolfgang Tillmanns – connections, overlaps and transitions between the different genres are revealed.
