Gottfried Böhm. Rocks of concrete and glass

Gottfried Böhm (*1920), son of the well-known Dominikus Böhm, who was holder of the Pritzker Prize (1986) and a university lecturer, is among the most renowned architects in Cologne and the state of North Rhine – Westphalia. The pilgrimage church at Neviges, completed in 1963, brought him architectural fame well beyond the immediate region. His buildings are characterised by the use of concrete which has been carefully worked and moulded into shape. In his later work, he has also used colour, glass and brick as design elements. This exhibition is based on a presentation designed by the Deutsches Architektur Museum Frankfurt in 2006, complemented by a closer look at the works and projects he executed for Cologne. For the first time, visitors will be able to see the sculptural works of this architect.
