R. Buckminster Fuller: Design als Kunst einer Wissenschaft

An exhibition on the life and work of the American Richard Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) in conjunction with Stanford University, USA, and the Museum für Gestaltung Zurich
When nowadays people speak of the Spacecraft Earth, synergy effects or global thinking, hardly anybody knows that the American R. Buckminster Fuller coined these terms decades ago and integrated them into his works. From the 1920s onwards he produced bold designs for houses, motorcars and bathrooms and in the 60s he became famous for his geodesic domes, i.e. those light dome constructions which found a number of applications ranging from exhibition halls to jungle gyms. Fuller’s masterpiece, the United States pavilion in Montreal in 1967, the Expo-Dome, was regarded as one of the first examples of “intelligent” architecture which eliminates anything superfluous, solid and heavy (poster, monograph on his works with commentary, exhibition guide).
